On a panel exploring possible economic models that would go beyond capitalism, scholars agreed on the need for an alternative, just not so much on how to replace it.
Columbia Law Professor Katharina Pistor told the audience at the outset that a previous panel had sparked in her the idea that their different approaches were worth exploring further. Pistor is the Edwin B. Parker Professor of Comparative Law and co-director of the Center for Political Economy, which hosted the event April 13.
The discussion centered around Pistor’s new book, “The Law of Capitalism and How to Transform It,” and recent essays in the New Left Review, “Beyond Capitalism” written by Aaron Benanav, assistant professor in the Department of Global Development at Cornell University.
Columbia Professors Suresh Naidu (Economics) and Jeremy Kessler (Law) joined Pistor and Benanav as discussants.
