Novara Media, a U.K.-based independent outlet, released a video interview with Nobel Prize–winning economist Joseph Stiglitz on June 15.
Stiglitz, a University Professor at Columbia and an advisory board member for the university’s Center for Political Economy, was asked by editor Aaron Bastani about the collapse of American democracy, his relationship with Milton Friedman and whether China is actually a socialist country.
Novara’s introduction to the video describes his unsuccessful efforts during the 2008 financial crisis to urge President Obama to not bail out financial institutions. Stiglitz argued that financial institutions should not be able to escape the consequences of their recklessness.
