Rethinking "Fascism": 2024 and Beyond

November 13, 2024
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
America/New_York
The Forum at Columbia University, 601 W. 125th St., New York, NY 10027 315

In recent days, prominent figures like Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, and General Mark Milley have adopted the language of "fascism" and "fascist" to describe their political opponents. What do they mean when they talk about fascism today? What do we mean when we talk about fascism today? With far-right candidates on the ballot and far-right movements on the march -- in the United States and around the world -- are these terms applicable to the current conjuncture? How do these phenomena relate to questions of power, inequality, and uncertainty, especially in light of the 2024 election?

Join Joseph Lowndes and Connie Razza for a conversation which takes up these and other pressing questions. The conversation will be moderated by Michael Gould-Wartofsky.

Speakers:

  • Joseph Lowndes, Visiting Distinguished Lecturer in Political Science at Hunter College
  • Connie Razza, Executive Director, Future Currents
  • Michael Gould-Wartofsky, Postdoctoral Research Scholar, Columbia University

Check-in will begin starting at 5:30PM in the West Atrium on the ground floor of the Forum.
