The Nation and Nationalism Research Network has announced the Nationalism in Organizations, Markets, and Society (NOMS) Conference, to be held at Columbia Business School on May 24, 2027. The conference will bring together scholars across disciplines to explore the roles of the nation, nationalism, and the state in business and society. The conference is organized by Lori Yue, Yusaku Takeda, and Yilang Feng, and will feature Michael Morris, Harris Mylonas, and Andreas Wimmer as keynote speakers. We thank Columbia Business School, the Jerome A. Chazen Institute for Global Business, and the Center for Political Economy at Columbia University for sponsoring the conference.
We invite submissions of 4,000-word proposals by Jan. 20, 2027. Please visit the conference website for details. We warmly encourage you to submit your work and share this invitation with colleagues whose research addresses these themes.
We are also pleased to share updates to the Nation and Nationalism Research Network (NNRN) website, including a growing library of recent research and media reports that may be useful for your research and teaching. If you have a paper, book, or relevant news item to share, we would love to hear from you.
We launched the Scholarly Insight column. The inaugural issue features Christina Lubinski’s article, Redrawing the Map: Navigating Nationalism in a Changing World. Drawing on her book, Navigating Nationalism in Global Enterprise: A Century of Indo-German Business Relations, Christina uses the metaphor of “mental maps of nationalism” to illuminate current geopolitical shifts.
