CPE Political Economy of Climate Lab Seminar with Matthew Kotchen

November 21, 2024
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
America/New_York
The Forum at Columbia University, 601 W. 125th St., New York, NY 10027 The Foyer, 2nd Floor

The goal of the Center for Political Economy’s Political Economy of Climate Lab seminar series is to convene faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students from various disciplines across the university to engage in discussion of emerging concepts and issues within climate change that possess a distinct political economy focus. During the Fall 2024 semester, the seminar series will focus on the political economy of forests.

Can carbon offsets (and forest offsets in particular) contribute to solving the climate problem? Does this market require regulation, and how does it address deforestation vs. sustaining existing forests? Matthew Kotchen, Professor Economics at Yale University, will address these questions through a brief talk, followed by Q&A, dinner, and conversation.
