This project will seed a Lab – housed in the Anthropology Department and the Institute for Latin American Studies – devoted both to practically-oriented teaching and research regarding forced disappearances in Mexico, and to fostering basic social science research on the comparative study of forced disappearances. At this stage of its existence, practical or applied aspects of the Lab's work are geared to generating "context analysis" of disappearances, to be shared with Mexico's National Commission for Searching for the Disappeared and the Zacatecas state Local Commission for Searching for the Disappeared. The Lab would make open this work to both graduate and undergraduate students, and make it available for students year-round.
